walls and floors and niches oh my!

Our contractor showed up yesterday and made quite a lot of progress for one day. Tadah! We have walls, and a floor! I also finished my precious little vanity.

I went with a mint green paint scheme with clouds. What do you think?
Kidding, kidding, the greenboard is mold resistant drywall that will be textured and painted over.

Cement board in all the places that will be tiled

and...

My $20 vanity (with real marble top) and a coat of paint. Lovely.

I'll keep you posted

another tale of an unreliable contractor

Our contractor, who was referred to us by friends, is supposedly reliable and trustworthy. Now, he may be trustworthy but he was supposed to start last Monday... and I am still phone stalking him with no response. Looks like our bathroom is going to continue to sit, naked, for a few more weeks while we line up another contractor. Sigh. Oh well. Let me share some pics of what I've been doing in the meantime...

I had been hanging on to a tiny swatch of fabric that I fell in love with months ago, so I finally went out and bought it. If you can use your imagination, this is the fabric, and below, the headboard. We are going to use a local upholsterer instead of making it ourselves because I am not confident we could do the nailhead detail, etc. without it looking sloppy. It is our master bedroom after all : )
And... I painted the bathroom vanity. I think it will add a nice little punch to our bathroom. The color is breezy by Sherwin Williams.

Our boatload of grasscloth. Patiently waiting to be hung. I saved about $60 a double roll by ordering it online versus at the local design store. I guess I'm more supportive of my wallet than the local economy... : ) Here is some before pics of our foyer...

I'll leave you with some pictures of the last bit of demo... hopefully soon I will have new bathroom pics to post.

a little bit of this and that

Not much to talk about this week as far as progress in the bathroom goes. Although Hubby did a lot of work, a lot of it was wiring (adding the can above the shower), and finishing up the demolition of the tile and drywall. But... We had someone come up and measure for the foyer wallpaper which is pretty stinking exciting!!!!!! So here is what I have to share:

The ceiling fixture for the bathroom, Martha Stewart Schoolhouse light. We are going to do bead board etc, so I really wanted something charming and vintage feeling. Found at amazon.com

This little box here is one of the neatest little home renovation gadgets I have found. It is a recessed light/fan combo. In my opinion bathroom fans are all ugly, and when you have a tiny little bathroom they clutter up the ceiling. This is for the shower stall. NuTone light/fan combo found at faucetdirect.com.

Perhaps all these details may seem insignificant to you (hubby thinks I'm crazy) but to me when you are buying something to put in your home, you are going to look at it everyday. So I want it to be exactly what I want.

Here is a picture is of the grasscloth that I want to put in the foyer. Of course I am terrified to choose the wallpaper because it covers such a large part of our house. The picture is boring because of course, the beauty is in the texture. The brand is Decorator Grasscloth and the color is 488-307.

Just in case you forgot what we are working with - our foyer. And that is not our junk.

And finally, the precious chair I found today at the wallpaper store. I think the pair of chair (hehehe) will be perfect for host and hostess chairs in the dining room. To be decided.

Until next time...

full disclosure?

Back to post about the progress (or lack there of) our 3rd and final bathroom remodel project. The main thing that is slowing us down is the trash removal. Of course we are way to cheap to rent a dumpster so we try and cram it all in our regular trash can every week. The other tiny little detail- the previous owners of our house drywalled over some mold to try and conceal it. Wasn't that considerate of them? Sigh. Anyway, here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure. What you are looking at here is the view if you were standing in the shower. There was a leak in the roof, which caused this damage in the drywall. Instead of ripping it out and replacing it, the previous owners framed out a new ceiling a foot down and hung some new drywall and called it a day. The good news is that we will be able to raise the ceiling and add a recessed light so the shower isn't so claustrophobic. The bad news is that we have to have mold people come out to make sure it is properly taken care of, to ensure no problems in the future.

Up close.

Wall tile is almost all gone.
And the empty shower. They used to use lead for shower pans! Kind of interesting, but we will have to replace it. That's all for now, and now that my camera is fixed, I promise there will be more blogging.

Have a great week,

Bethany

putting away the decorations

Today we put up our tree and moved everything back to the garage. I didn't really have any exciting decorations to post, but I do have to share a lesson in patience. In November I found these fabulous stockings from Horchow, but they were way expensive, and with shipping, etc, they turned out to be around $400. So I waited and waited hoping they would go on sale... and although we had Walgreens stockings on Christmas morning... I was able to get order them for half off! Next Christmas our mantel will be beautiful.

I also caved in and bought some bedding for our master bedroom. We had been living with Hubby's college comforter (which was a queen size, btw), and I had enough! I thought we were going to have custom bedding made, but since this went on sale I couldn't resist. We will jazz it up with some pillows and maybe an upholstered headboard and bench at the foot of the bed. I'll keep you posted.

day 3

Demo begins! I think the pictures pretty much speak for themselves. We discovered mold today on the back of the closet drywall. I sprayed it down with bleach water and we will go ahead and replace it when we do the bathroom. I have also included a video of my version of demolotion. Enjoy!
I am dork. I know. But its funny

day 1

Sorry for the disgusting pictures but I thought you might want to see the ugly of bathroom renovation. All work done by Hubby with help from his helpful assistant

The inside of a 50 year old toilet. I think I'll go ahead and splurge for a new one.

Taking down the old glass door.

Sink is gone.

Ready for demo

My latest find from home goods, mirror for above the sink. I'm not sure if you can see it but it has a shelf at the bottom.

And my precious vanity. I haven't made up my mind about painting it blue. I am thinking distressed wedgewood? What do you think?

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
