Afternoon Projects

Since hubby handles a lot of the not-so-glamorous labor around the house, here's a tribute to one of his afternoon projects. Our foyer was a little too dark before--one overhead light and one little round window--so we wanted to let more light into the room by adding a new door.

Doh!

You are not going to believe what I did. Well I was so excited about my sink that I found... inexpensive, free shipping, small... it was perfect.

Turns out my sink has an overweight big brother, who is 5 inches wider and 4 inches deeper. In my excitement I clicked on the sink (both sinks have the SAME picture) and ordered the wrong one. Now I have to ship the stupid thing back to Canada. To top it off I made a fool out of myself when I called the company and told them they sent me the wrong sink. Sigh. I even opened it all up. Lesson learned. It will probably be another 2 weeks before we can finish the bathroom. I guess I will have to post some other stuff we have going on...

Talk to you soon

ps. Who gets excited over a sink?
The same person who gets excited about a toilet.

Doh!!!

Rest assured, my sink will be much cuter.

Renovating Blues

Grouting went a little more slowly than planned. We purchased pre-mixed grout because we are getting lazy and mixing grout is really messy. The little tub said it would cover 20 sq. feet... yeah right! Well 3 tubs, 2 trips to home depot, and 4 hours later ... it was complete. Who would have thought that little room would have tormented me so! Today was definitely discouraging for this DIYer.

Booo grout

On a sunnier note, I bought my fabric this weekend for my master bedroom drapes!!! Woohoo! It only took 8 hours. I am sure Hubby is thankful he didn't go with us. Its a charcoal grey silk with little embroidered trees.

Here is Glick's. Glamorous huh? Tee hee.

Trees on drapes? Just wait!

Tile Installation

I am sure you are tired of hearing about the powder room, but when 2 people both have full time jobs and are doing it themselves... things move slowly! Thank goodness for my in-laws who came in the help us. Tonight we tiled. Did I say we? I meant my husband. It's hard to fit 2 people in a bathroom too small to be a closet. What can I say? I made dinner.

Where it all started. Thankfully, it came via UPS without any broken!

Looking good

Tools of the trade. Not messy at all

The tile is done! Well except for the grout, sealer... then the baseboard, shoe molding....

Looking up at the sky

My hands have calluses. We painted the powder room ... 1 coat of primer plus 2 coats of paint. My ideas for the powder room switched around a little this weekend. After deciding that a dark color would be too cavernous for my 3' X 6' powder room, I went with .... white! I can't believe that I actually chose to paint a room white, but I am hoping with some accessories and the ceiling color, it won't be too boring.

My sister in law had it on a ceiling in her house... great inspiration! Ceiling color is Sherwin Williams Sleepy Blue.

My sink! I was trying to re-use my old console sink, but I finally found one that was small enough to fit in my tiny space and not too expensive. This sink is only 14 inches deep!

I love these coral prints from Horchow. Maybe for the back wall? I wonder if I could make these...
I'll keep you posted!

Guest Room #1

Sorry I have been missing for a couple of days. I started a new job this week and it has been hectic. Since there is really no progress worth documenting of the powder room... I have some other pictures to share with you. I told you I loved toile... I wasn't kidding!

The before. Once again, not our stuff... when previous owners still owned it.

Check out the icky carpet.

The wood floors after the carpet was ripped up. That is filthy... just think whats in your carpet!

rarrr. this is actually the day we moved in.

yuck yuck yuck.

i don't even know.

The after! I wish I had taken pictures of the progess of this room but I wasn't blogging then. All of the toile is Pottery Barn and we made the headboard from scratch (with a headboard cover from PB). Ask me if you have any questions about it, we upholstered it and everything. And by we I mean me and Hubby. We did it ourselves : ) I found the chandelier from the Tattered Suitcase, a thrift/antique store by our house.

New floors. Clean!

Hubby's old college desk I painted white. And the lonely lamp. I haven't decorated besides the few things I have done. I will get to it... sometime

Up close. Please excuse the patchwork... I had a little touching up to do ; )

French doors. All window treatments made by my awesome mother in law : ) Paint color is Sherwin Williams Calming Cream, trim is Roman Column.

Master Bedroom Ideas

Today the guys taped and floated the powder room, so no exciting pictures to post. My next project is going to be my master bedroom... so I thought I would post some pictures I am in love with... some inspiration. I think I am supposed to give credit to the pictures, but I can't remember since I have been compiling them for about a year. I know some are Traditional Home, some are House Beautiful, and some are Southern Accents, and one by Candice Olsen.

Nothing exciting today...

Well, today wasn't all that exciting. The guys got the drywall up, but no tape and float. Its already dusty. I have to admit it makes me a little anxious having other people working on our home. I walked in and they were repairing the hole in the foyer ceiling (from a pipe leak) and they were letting junk fall all over our wood floors. Ugh. At least in the bathroom everything is torn up. Anyway...this is the mirror I think I was to use... minus the ribbon on top.

Here is the progress in the powder room.

Thats all for now. Hopefully more exciting pictures to post soon.
